Staking rewards for cryptocurrencies

With staking, you make your cryptocurrencies work for you: you deposit cryptocurrencies and receive regular rewards for doing so. At PostFinance, you can currently stake Ethereum – securely in your crypto portfolio from a minimum amount of ETH 0.1.

Here’s how it works

  1. Purchase at least ETH 0.1 in your crypto portfolio via e-finance or in the PostFinance App. No crypto portfolio yet? Open one directly online.

  2. Select the “Stake” function and specify the amount you want. Staked coins are tied up during staking and cannot be sold.

  3. PostFinance executes staking orders twice a week. A timer in online banking shows you when the next date is. The staking income is automatically credited to your existing staking position. That way, you can benefit from the compound interest effect.

  4. If you want to terminate your position, you can initiate the unstaking yourself in online banking. After execution, your position will undergo a technical waiting period before the coins are fully available again.

Staking explained in less than two minutes

To start staking Ethereum with PostFinance, you must meet the following preconditions:

  • Crypto portfolio at PostFinance
  • Have at least ETH 0.1

Staking fee: 20% on rewards received, at least USD 1. The fee is debited quarterly from the reference account in your account currency.

  • Staking rewards are payments you receive for depositing your cryptocurrency and making it available to the network. The rewards are credited in the relevant cryptocurrency.

  • The rewards come from newly created coins and from the transaction fees that network users pay to execute transactions. The exact mechanisms vary depending on the blockchain.

  • Essentially any cryptocurrency that is based on the proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. With PostFinance, you can currently stake Ethereum. Other cryptocurrencies will be activated in due course.

  • The staking rewards are credited regularly to your crypto portfolio.

  • The staking rewards are displayed in the crypto asset statement. This gives you all the information you need for your tax return in one place.

  • Once staking has been initiated, your coins will be blocked and will first go through an entry queue. Afterwards, you can decide flexibly when you want to unstake. When it comes to unstaking, there is also a waiting period to take into account before the coins are available again. Both waiting times vary depending on the blockchain and its capacity utilization.

  • You can initiate the unstaking yourself at any time via e-finance or in the PostFinance App.

  • If the rules of the Ethereum networks are violated, staked cryptocurrencies and/or staking rewards can be destroyed. There is also a risk that the market price of staked cryptocurrencies will fluctuate during the staking period and will be lower during unstaking than at the time of staking.
