336,600 francs for up-and-coming Swiss ice hockey players

This year, PostFinance is supporting young Swiss ice hockey players by contributing a total of 336,600 francs. The 22 Top Scorers in the National League and the PostFinance Women’s League earned this sum during the 2023/2024 regular season. The symbolic cheques were presented today at the Top Scorer ceremony in Bern.

This afternoon, the PostFinance Top Scorer ceremony was held at the Bierhübeli in Bern. For the first time, the best point scorers in both the National League and the PostFinance Women’s League were honoured. Kurt Fuchs, Interim CEO at PostFinance, presented the symbolic cheques to the Top Scorers from the two highest Swiss ice hockey leagues. Fuchs says: «The successful introduction of the Top Scorer concept in the PostFinance Women’s League highlights our commitment to equal opportunities. This is an important step towards professionalizing women’s ice hockey in Switzerland and promoting up-and-coming talent.»

Estelle Duvin and Marcus Sörensen are the Top Scorers in their leagues

Estelle Duvin of SC Bern Frauen and Marcus Sörensen of HC Fribourg-Gottéron scored the most points for their teams during the regular season. The French forward Duvin put on a dazzling performance across 28 games, scoring a total of 35 goals and 32 assists. She received a cheque for 18,750 francs. Sörensen scored a total of 63 points across 52 games, earning 18,900 francs for his club’s junior division.

PostFinance recognizes the outstanding achievements of all 22 players at the Top Scorer ceremony. Altogether, they earned 336,600 francs during the last qualifying round. This sum will go entirely towards promoting up-and-coming talent in the clubs.

Equal Support in Women's Ice Hockey

In the National League, PostFinance pays 300 francs for each scorer point (goals and assists). For the women, a fixed amount of 150,000 francs will be distributed amongst the eight clubs of the PostFinance Women’s League. Last season in the highest women’s ice hockey league showed that the Top Scorers at the best teams achieved a lot more points than those of teams at the bottom of the table. Distributing the funding based on the statistics would widen rather than narrow this gap. For this reason, a fixed amount of 150,000 francs will be distributed amongst the eight clubs in the PostFinance Women’s League, which means that all Top Scorers will secure the same amount of money for “their own” junior section. This measure should contribute towards greater professionalization of women’s ice hockey in Switzerland and towards strengthening the league as a whole. The vision is to introduce the Top Scorer concept in the PostFinance Women’s League in the same way as the National League at a later date – that means payment based on points.
