In February 2024, PostFinance was the first systemically important Swiss bank to introduce trading and custody of cryptocurrencies. In January 2025, the service was expanded to include Ethereum staking.
With the change as of mid-August 2026, the staking function is undergoing targeted further development. Customers can now stake their Ethereum holdings without a fixed term and decide for themselves when they want to terminate their position. They can also initiate unstaking independently. PostFinance executes staking and unstaking orders twice a week. At the same time, the resulting staking income is automatically credited to the existing staking position, allowing customers to benefit from the compound interest effect.
“With this development, PostFinance is responding to growing demands among crypto investors for greater flexibility and a user experience that’s based on the standards of the Ethereum ecosystem,” says Dr Alexander Thoma, Head of Digital Assets, about the new function.
The staking service is aimed at customers who want to achieve additional returns on their Ethereum holdings. In addition to potential price gains, staking rewards also provide a regular source of income. The service can be used via e-finance or in the PostFinance App – without requiring any technical knowledge of the blockchain. At the same time, customers benefit from the security standards of an established Swiss financial institution and from low entry barriers.
As part of the ongoing development of its crypto range, PostFinance is planning to gradually expand its staking service to other proof-of-stake networks. More information will follow in 2027.
