Press Release

PostFinance boosts visibility of women’s ice hockey – male players to wear women’s name on their jerseys

On 1 November, the PostFinance Arena will not only host the match between SC Bern and ZSC Lions, but also send a clear message in favour of equity in Swiss sport. For the first time, the PostFinance logo on the jerseys of SCB’s male players will be replaced by a female player’s name – that of Lara Christen, captain of the SCB women’s team. By doing so, PostFinance will put the spotlight firmly on women’s ice hockey.

With this initiative, PostFinance, the main partner of the two highest men’s and women’s ice hockey leagues, is showing its commitment to equity in Swiss ice hockey.

“We train just as hard, fight with the same passion – and are delighted that this commitment will be on show this evening,” says Lara Christen, captain of the SCB women’s team. During the evening, her name will replace the PostFinance logo on the men’s jerseys, representing the entire Women’s League team. In addition, other members of the SCB women's team will be present in person during an autograph session at the PostFinance Arena. They will also appear on the video cube and the perimeter LED display – and can also be seen as life-size figures on site. The initiative is accompanied by MySports, whose studio programme provides in-depth insights into women’s ice hockey with interviews, profiles and background articles.

Two leagues. One passion.

For 25 years, PostFinance has been involved in Swiss ice hockey, and since the 2022/2023 season, as the main and naming rights partner of the PostFinance Women’s League, it has specifically committed itself to giving women’s ice hockey a greater presence and contributing to professionalization. “With our campaign, we are sending a clear signal for greater visibility and equity in Swiss ice hockey. 'Two leagues. One passion.' highlights the belief that women’s ice hockey and men’s ice hockey deserve equal attention, respect and enthusiasm, because everyone’s passion on the ice is the same,” says Beat Röthlisberger, CEO of PostFinance. “What matters is not a person’s gender, but their dedication, their commitment and their love of the game.” PostFinance’s commitment not only aims to create visibility, but also promote sustainable development: the more girls find their way into this dynamic sport, the greater the potential of the league. This, in turn, boosts the chances of more professional conditions and will strengthen women’s ice hockey in the long term.

Sponsoring commitment has an impact

The development over recent years shows that the commitment to the PostFinance Women’s League is having an impact: the number of licensed female players has risen by 24 percent since 2021/2022, awareness of the league has tripled and attendance has increased sevenfold. Over 48,000 fans attended the games last season. EV Zug holds the record with 4,136 spectators – set on 15 March 2025 in the playoff semi-final against Davos.

A joint message

SC Bern’s male players are also behind the campaign on 1 November: “We’re wearing Lara's name on our jerseys as a representative of the SCB women because we share the same passion,” says Ramon Untersander, Captain of SC Bern’s men’s team. “Switzerland is an ice hockey nation – for men and women alike.”

PostFinance's ice hockey commitment

PostFinance has been committed to Swiss ice hockey for over 20 years. The key elements of PostFinance’s commitment to ice hockey are its two league partnerships, with the National League (NL) and the PostFinance Women’s League (PFWL). At the core of this league commitment is the “PostFinance Top Scorer” concept: the best scorers on each team wear a yellow helmet with flames painted on it and the Top Scorer jersey – a visible sign of the promotion of young talent, which PostFinance is supporting in particular. PostFinance also has naming rights to the PostFinance Arena in Bern and has been supporting two clubs in a targeted manner since the 2025/2026 season: SC Bern and HC Ambrì-Piotta. Both clubs have a team in both the NL and the PFWL. With this focus on club sponsorship, PostFinance aims to set an example of equity and above all to harness synergies and promote the structural and communicative strengthening of women’s teams. Club sponsorship also makes it possible to set priorities for activation, such as the “Two leagues. One passion.” campaign on 1 November 2025 at SC Bern.
