Beat Röthlisberger appointed new CEO of PostFinance

Beat Röthlisberger will take up the position of new Chief Executive Officer of PostFinance on 1 July 2024. The 52-year-old from Switzerland is currently Deputy CEO of Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank (BLKB) and leads the Corporate Banking Advisory business unit. He replaces Hansruedi Köng, who will step down at the end of February 2024.

The PostFinance Board of Directors has appointed Beat Röthlisberger as the new Chief Executive Officer of PostFinance. The business administration graduate has a wealth of management experience. His career in the financial sector began at Swiss Bank Corporation (SBC) in Basel in 1992. He held various roles at SBC and UBS Basel until 2015, including Deputy Regional Head of Corporate Customers and Deputy Head of Credit Risk Management. Since July 2017, he has led the Corporate Banking Advisory business unit at BLKB and been a member of the Executive Board, taking on the additional role of Deputy CEO in August 2021.

Ideal choice for PostFinance

Röthlisberger will bring his skills as a strategist to PostFinance. “Beat Röthlisberger is an experienced banker whose profile is an ideal fit for PostFinance and its strategic focus,” says Chairman of the Board of Directors Marcel Bührer. “He not only has in-depth knowledge of the conventional banking industry, but also understands how to represent the company’s interests to all stakeholders. I am confident that his strong customer focus will be an asset for PostFinance.”

Hansruedi Köng: an era draws to a close

Beat Röthlisberger will take up operational management of PostFinance on 1 July 2024, subject to regulatory approval. He replaces Hansruedi Köng, who will step down at the end of February 2024 after 12 years as CEO. “Hansrüedi Köng has had a major impact on PostFinance as CEO and has played a significant role in its success. For that, I would like to thank him sincerely. His successor will inherit a modern, stable bank with a healthy customer base and positive prospects, committed employees and an excellent corporate culture,” says Marcel Bührer.

From March until the end of June, Kurt Fuchs will serve as interim CEO of PostFinance. He will then return to his usual role as CFO. “Kurt Fuchs deserves particular thanks,” says Marcel Bührer. “Alongside the other members of the Executive Board, he will ensure that management of the bank continues seamlessly.”
