Here’s what you should look out for when shopping online:
- Keep your operating system up to date and use security software (e.g. virus protection)
- Make sure you have a secure connection (https, lock icon, certificate owner, and correct domain name)
- Use a strong password (at least 10 characters) with upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters, and use different passwords for the different shops
- Purchase only from trustworthy shops – you can recognize them with a label (see tips) or the ratings
- Choose familiar payment methods such as PostFinance Card or credit cards
- Keep all order and payment details (check account statement)
- Have you received an invoice but not ordered anything? Do not under any circumstances pay, but instead inform the merchant – it is their responsibility to trace the cause of the online fraud
- If possible, pay with buyer protection so you can reclaim your money if the goods don’t turn up
- Have your order sent to a secure address so that the package cannot be stolen
