15 years of the PostFinance Arena: the story continues until 2025

Since 2007, PostFinance has given its name to Bern’s ice hockey stadium at Allmend. This August, the PostFinance Arena celebrated its 15th anniversary. Over the years, the biggest ice hockey stadium in Switzerland has hosted not just top-level hockey games packed with passionate fans and high-octane action, but also many other well-attended, first-class events.

This includes the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2009, five championship titles for SC Bern, 453 SCB championship games – and over 1,500 renditions of our goal song “The Final Countdown”! A lot has happened in ice hockey in the 15 years since PostFinance gave its name to the arena at the Bernese Allmend site. Hansruedi Köng, CEO of PostFinance, is very pleased that this story will continue because the arena naming rights will be extended until at least August 2025: “We are proud that our brand adorns the largest and best-known ice hockey stadium in Switzerland and will continue to do so for years to come”. PostFinance has been a strong partner to Swiss ice hockey for over 20 years and will be the main partner of the National League until 2025. “The PostFinance Arena allows us to ensure that this commitment is visible. We want to use ice hockey sponsorship to convey our brand values “on an equal footing”, “inspiring” and “agile”. Ice hockey and PostFinance: a perfect match.

“Proof of close and sustainable cooperation”

Contractual partner BASAG is also pleased about the extension: “We are happy that we will be able to continue with the tried-and-tested partnership with PostFinance and look forward to more successful years in the PostFinance Arena”, says Thomas Schmid, Managing Director of BASAG. Raeto Raffainer, the new CEO of SC Bern, adds: “I was there as an SC Bern player for the change from the Bern Arena to the PostFinance Arena. The fact that our home stadium still bears this name proves our close and lasting cooperation. We would like to thank our main sponsor for the valuable support and we look forward to more unforgettable experiences at the PostFinance Arena”.

Past non-hockey events

Over the past 15 years, the PostFinance Arena has also been the setting for top-class events that have nothing to do with ice hockey. Unique and unforgettable:

  • Boxing: on 12 December 2009, Vitali Klitschko beats Kevin Johnson at the Heavyweight Boxing World Championship;
  • Figure skating: On 29 January 2011, Sarah Meier sensationally becomes European Champion;
  • Swiss wrestling: The arena hosts the Mittelland Swiss wrestling festival on two occasions. The respective winners are Florian Gnägi in 2014 and Michael Ledermann in 2022.
  • Artistic gymnastics: Giulia Steingruber takes the gold medal in vault at the 2016 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

The PostFinance Arena will soon host further events, including the NHL Global Series on 3 October 2022, the DJ Bobo concert on 2 June 2023, and the Sport Climbing World Cup in August 2023.
