Card security

Make cashless payments and withdraw money worldwide with the cards from PostFinance – securely. Find out more about how you can make your everyday card use more secure and the measures used by PostFinance to help ensure the security of its card products.

The most important recommendations for safe everyday card use

  • Keep your PIN secret: cover the keypad when using the card, do not make a note of your PIN or give it to others
  • Do not get distracted when using the card. If you are unsure, cancel the transaction immediately using the Stop button.
  • If your card is lost, stolen or withheld by an ATM, or if you suspect it is being misused: have the card blocked
  • Activate geoblocking to restrict cash withdrawals abroad – to protect against skimming
  • Adjust your own limits
  • Check your account statements regularly and contact PostFinance if in doubt
  • Secure cards

PostFinance equips all PostFinance Cards with a microprocessor chip. This complies with the global EMV standard for payment card security.

The technology used in EMV chips provides effective protection against copying and tampering.

    Secure PIN

PostFinance sends PINs to cardholders separately from their cards. PINs are protected by a security envelope when sent through the post. PostFinance uses an effective security procedure to protect PINs at all times.

Cards with the contactless payment function can be used to make payments in stores for amounts of up to CHF 40 (CHF 80 from now on and until further notice) without having to enter your PIN.

    Secure infrastructure

All payment data is protected during transmission. All PostFinance’s computer networks are equipped with an effective firewall that constantly monitors data traffic. PostFinance also monitors defined card transactions for unauthorized withdrawals and contacts the customer concerned in suspicious cases.
