General information on accessibility
What are accessible websites?
Accessible websites are pages that are accessible to all Internet users. People with special needs (owing to visual impairment, motor-skill impairment, learning disabilities, etc.) can access the information they need and thus use the enormous range of information available on the Internet. Accessible websites support independence and offer greater freedom.
How do people with disabilities use the Internet?
Depending on the disability, access to the PC/Internet can be made possible directly by designing the hardware and software accordingly. The following input and output aids can compensate for disabilities:
- Speech output/reading device
- Braille line
- Large-size font presentation/picture and graphic enlargement/colour settings
- Screen reader
- Large field/small field/mini-keyboard/foot keyboard
- Head mouse/mouth-operated mouse
- Infrared input device
